Loga sámegillii. – My experience was that it was a shock for the activists that I came at night. Several grumbled. This is what police officer Mikael Dellemyr says in court on Wednesday. He was the site manager when the Fosen activists were forced out of the Ministry of Oil and Energy (OED). – The way I see it from the outside is that it was a situation they experienced as disgusting and unpleasant, adds Dellemyr. 18 activists have been charged with breaking the law during the Fosen demonstrations last year. Reacting to their removal at night The accused activists explained earlier in the trial that they thought it was cowardly for the police to remove them at night without journalists present. – The state does not tolerate seeing Samar in a cardigan being forced out by the police. I think that’s why it happened at night. That’s what Rasmus Madsen Berg said during his explanation. He was among the 13 activists who demonstrated inside the reception at OED from Thursday 23 February until they were kicked out on the night of 27 February last year. – There is power in the image of people who get bored. Cowardly that they take us at night, added Ole Dolmseth. Amundsen explained in court that an escalation of the demonstration, employees who were due to return to work after the winter break and security were the reasons why the police were contacted. – We are approaching on Monday morning and we are sending encouragement because of that. The activists were asleep and it was me who woke them up, explains the task leader. Dellemyr ordered the activists to remove themselves from the reception within 15 minutes. – There are several people who complain and react to me coming and the time I come. The activists reported that they felt that the police prevented freedom of expression and that they wanted to have time to contact the press. – We do not want to prevent freedom of expression. We want to carry out the assignment. Then they got half an hour more. At 02.30 the police carried the activists out and drove them to the police station to register their names and let them out together. – We must get it right on what our role is. We shall not say anything about what they stand out for. We will do it as gently as possible, adds Dellemyr. news was notified and was present outside the OED when the activists were carried out. – There could have been many more police reports As had been announced, the demonstrations escalated on Monday 27 February. Greta Thunberg, among others, then joined the Fosen demonstrations in Oslo. – I have not experienced this size in my 19 years as a manager in Oslo. This is what Police Superintendent Tore Barstad at the Oslo Police District says in his testimony. – There could have been many more police reports. Because when the police removed demonstrators from one ministry, they moved to another. – Several protesters ran to the next ministry after they had been removed from another. This is explained by Eirik Hestvik, who was also an incident leader from the police during the demonstrations. – We remained standing in these situations throughout Wednesday and Thursday. The activists sat down outside several ministries until Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre acknowledged that there was an ongoing human rights violation against the reindeer herders at Fosen. He did so on Thursday evening, 2 March 2023. – We were going to block several ministries in an attempt to close the state, explained Ella Marie Hætta Isaksen in court on Monday. Was taken to a cell The police wanted to facilitate the markings and at the same time remove the activists from the entrances to the ministries. – We had an approach that worked poorly, says Hestvik about the labor-intensive situation. The police considered that stricter measures were needed. – In my 24 years in the police, I have never been involved in taking such a careful and long-suffering approach to activists as I have been towards the Fosen case, adds Hestvik. On Thursday morning 2 March, the police received yet another encouragement from DSS for assistance in removing activists from the entrance to the Ministry of Finance. Task leader Hestvik gave the activists an order to remove themselves from the entrance, with the message that they could be taken to the detention center if they remained seated. – We take it upon ourselves that they met us in a nice way. We talked to them face to face. But the activists did not leave and they were taken to the detention center, registered and kept in solitary confinement for about four hours. – I wanted to do everything in my power to create attention and the way I did it was to demonstrate and then I wanted to do it for as long as possible. That’s what Ayla Iselin Hætta Isaksen said in court. She is one of the five defendants for the offense outside the Ministry of Finance. On Friday morning, the demonstrations ended and the activists had a legal demonstration outside the King in the Cabinet. The sisters Hætta Isaksen for support of mother, Britt Elin, in court.
