A little after 9 o’clock on Wednesday morning, the police went to a coordinated operation at four different addresses in Østerdalen and the Glåmdal district. At one of the private addresses, news could observe that 10-12 uniformed and civilian police officers participated. Those arrested were taken in cars and driven to various police stations in the interior for questioning. In a press release on Wednesday, the police confirm the action and that the five have been charged with sexual intercourse with children. – In December, the police received a report from a woman who claims she has been repeatedly abused as a child and into adulthood. She has explained that the assaults must have been carried out by several people, says deputy police officer Anna Brunstad. Two of those arrested are in the family of the girl who allegedly suffered the abuse. The other three arrested are said to have been friends of the family. The five people are in their 60s and 70s, the police say. The girl is said to have been subjected to abuse over several years. She said that she was sexually abused by two family members and three other adults when she was a child. The woman, who is now in her 30s, has been interviewed several times by the police in January and February. Last week, the police believed they had grounds to press charges and arrest the five people. – The police believe there is reasonable reason to suspect that criminal offenses have occurred and have therefore arrested the five people to obtain their explanations. We have arrested all five at the same time to ensure that they cannot influence each other’s explanations, says Brunstad. The police say that they will start questioning the five accused on Wednesday. Østre Innlandet district court has processed requests for searches and decided that the accused should be searched. – The district court has thus agreed that there are reasonable grounds for suspicion, says Brunstad. No decision has been taken as to whether the five will be produced for remand. This will be assessed during Wednesday/Thursday.
