– It is clear, we follow this, discuss and enjoy it, says Fisheries Minister Marianne Sivertsen Næss (Ap). She talks about how the new Netflix series “Milliardærøya” has become the topic of lunch at the Ministry of Fisheries. The series is recorded on Frøya in Trøndelag, but in the series we are talking about the fictional island of Brima. “Billiardøya” is about the power struggle between the wealthy breeders who live and operate businesses on the island. In reality, Frøya is an island with many salmon billionaires. Put at the forefront Is the fishing industry a bit like we see in the series? – It’s clear that it’s probably very over the top, and that’s what all good drama series do, says Sivertsen Næss and continues: – But I think it’s very positive that attention is paid to such an important industry for our country. She says that she and her colleagues in the Ministry of Fisheries waited in excitement when the series was announced. – It is very important that such an important industry receives such attention. But also in a time where there are some challenges that need to be solved, I think it is positive. Fisheries Minister Marianne Sivertsen Næss. Photo: Hanne Wilhelms / news “Himmelblå” and “Dallas” – We love the audience and viewers. It is very funny to hear that even those who sit with both feet in the fishing industry do not actually think that what is happening is simply improbable. That’s what Marit Moum Aune, director of “Milliardøya”, says. Is the series at the top, as the fisheries minister says? Moum Aune says that the series is “over the top”, a good mix of “Himmelblå” and “Dallas”. – When I came out to Frøya and we started working on this, I have to admit that I didn’t realize how big this industry was, says Moum Aune and continues: – When we hear that the oil industry is the largest, and then comes the farming industry which second largest industry in Norway, so you only realize it when you get out along the coast and understand that it encompasses so much. She thinks it’s about ignorance from people in the city. – So that we point to it, we absolutely do, says Moum Aune. Director Marit Moum Aune. She also says that they have also become aware of how well known it is that Norway is a major producer of farmed salmon: – We are a bit fooled abroad that when Norway is to have “big business” ala Succession, it is on a small fishing island. We think that’s funny. “Billiardærøya” has been on Netflix’s top 10 list for two weeks. – We do not yet know if there will be more seasons. It also depends a little on that, how popular it becomes, says the director. Fisheries Minister Marianne Sivertsen Næss is looking forward to seeing the end of the series: – I’m looking forward to it, but it’s also almost a little sad that I’m on the last episode, says Sivertsen Næss.
