First parliamentary dinner at the castle without King Harald – news Norway – Overview of news from different parts of the country

The Storting dinner has been an annual tradition since 1906. Here, Storting representatives, government members and other representatives of official Norway are invited to dinner at the castle together with the royal family. 195 guests participate this year. The first time without King Harald Usually it is the king who hosts the dinner. King Harald, on the other hand, is on sick leave after being diagnosed with corona, and cannot participate for the first time. Crown Prince Haakon has instead taken over his place as host tonight. This means, among other things, that he gives the speech on behalf of the king. Queen Sonja, Crown Princess Mette-Marit and Princess Astrid, Mrs Verner also participate. Full of traditions The Storting dinner is full of traditions. It begins at 19.45 with a procession where the guests enter the Great Dining Room at the castle. The royal family then follows right to the end. At 20:00 everyone must be in place. The crown prince then gives the speech on behalf of the king. After this, the national anthem is sung, before the President of the Storting makes his speech. Finally, the King’s Song is sung. For the actual dinner, four courses are always served.
