23 February 2024 at 01:49 Fire extinguished in block of flats in Oslo On Friday night, a heavy fire started in an apartment in the attic of a block of flats on St. Hanshaugen in Oslo. Around 30 people were evacuated. Shortly after 04:00, the children’s services announced that the fire had been extinguished, but that there will be further extinguishing throughout Friday morning. The police say that all residents got out of the apartment where the fire started. Around 3 o’clock, the fire crews had control of the scene and there was no longer any danger of spreading. The building has suffered major damage on the top floor, and water damage on the floors below. The fire spread to the entire attic of the building. At one point there was a danger of spreading to St. Mark’s Church, consecrated in 1927. The church is considered a cultural monument worthy of protection and is listed by the National Antiquities. The fire started in the attic of the four-storey block of flats located at the junction between Waldemar Thranes gate and Ullevålsveien and was reported at 1.22am on Friday. (news/NTB)
