Finnish President Sauli Niinistö has said that the gas leak is probably due to sabotage. Previously, the Finnish authorities confirmed that there were several ships in the area when the gas leak from the Balticconnector pipeline occurred on 8 October. Among these were one Russian cargo ship and one Chinese container ship. Now the spotlight is on the Chinese ship, which was first registered as Chinese earlier this year. Finnish police also say they have found “a very heavy” object near the gas pipeline, according to Reuters.
