FHI expects a peak in the flu outbreak around New Year’s Eve – Latest news – news

28 December 2023 at 08:14 FHI expects a peak in the flu outbreak around New Year’s Eve The peak of an flu outbreak is approaching, the Norwegian Institute of Public Health (FHI) believes. They believe that the peak of this infection curve is reached around the New Year celebrations. It is both the corona and the flu that people are getting sick from now, and many are admitted to hospital: – There are far more admissions than we saw in the years before the pandemic, but slightly less than we saw last year, says infection control director at FHI Trygve Ottersen to news. The outbreak started at the crossing point between weeks 49 and 50. Since then there has been increasing and significant flu activity, writes FHI. – We are in the middle of a flu outbreak, and expect that the peak may still be a few weeks away. Then, unfortunately, we could hit another flu peak during the winter, says Ottersen. But it means that it can still be a good idea to take the flu vaccine and the corona vaccine for those groups for which FHI recommends it. (NTB)
