The wait is over for football-starved Fredrikstad, over ten years after their last visit to the Eliteserien. Sunday’s 4-0 victory over Åsane sends FFK back into the best company in Norwegian football. – It is good. It has been a difficult season, so it’s nice to be standing here and to have reached an intermediate goal, FFK coach Mikkkjal Thomassen tells news. – I am very happy that the city and the club can celebrate this here today. They have worked so hard and supported each other immensely, says the coach, while Sweet Caroline thunders in the background. Back after 11 years On a cold November day in 2012, FFK played their last Eliteserie game for the time being, when Molde came to visit. FFK had to win. They didn’t. The relegation was a fact, and since then the club from Fredrikstad has struggled for several seasons at both the second and third levels of Norwegian football. Now they are back. How has the time outside the elite series been, Mikkkjal? – Then you have to ask someone with better insight than me, and I haven’t been too concerned about it. Now we will try to make this happen and look with fresh eyes and be optimistic about the future. Here the FFK players go off the hinges together with the supporters after promotion was secured: Kongsvinger stumbled The premises were quite simple before the 26th series round in the first division in football on Sunday. If FFK beat Åsane and Kongsvinger gave up points away to Start, Fredrikstad would be ready for the Eliteserien. Already after 13 minutes, Fredrikstad took the lead in Bergen, and the boys from Plankebyen had full control of the game from there. FFK eventually won easily 3-0, after scores by Brandur Hendriksson, Joannes Bjartalid, Riki Alba and an own goal. It was more exciting in Kristiansand, where Kongsvinger took an early lead. But the home team hit back brutally in the second half, and won the match 2-1. With that, FFK are ready for the Eliteserien in 2024. JUBILEE: Immediately after the end of the match, the flares were lit by the Fredrikstad supporters. OVERALL: And the players quickly made their way to the visiting supporters. LOVE: The promotion means a lot, to many. JAA: Loud cheers also came from the Fredrikstad players. Who will get the last promotion place is still not certain, but YMCA is very likely to win tonight. They now have a gap of 7 points down to the qualification place.
