Ferry slammed into the quay – sustained extensive damage to the bow – news Nordland

The crash was the ferry hitting the concrete in the quay. A tipster news has spoken to tells of a powerful clash. – There is damage to both the quay and the ferry, says the man. The quay facility is out of operation Alf Vidar Jakobsen is operations manager at Torghatten Nord. He confirms the incident. – We have had a quay collision as it is called. This has resulted in damage to both the vessel and the wharf. No one was injured, but the quay is also out of order, he says. It was when the ferry was about to dock that the crew was unable to stop the ferry. It was the undercarriage that took the brunt when the ferry crashed into the quay. After the damage to the ferry had been checked and reported to the Maritime Authorities, it became clear that the vessel was seaworthy. New triangular relationship The passengers on board were thus returned to Forøy, where they were allowed to disembark there. “Virak” will now sail to Slipen in Sandnessjøen, where the steering limb will be repaired. The quay facility is out of operation indefinitely. The passengers queuing for the ferry at Ågskaret had to be diverted via Jektvik. – Until then, there will be a triangular connection between Jektvik, Kilboghamn and Forøy. The two ferries that already run between Jektvik and Kilboghamn will now also serve Forøy-Ågskaret, says the operations manager. The result is longer waiting times in the busy summer traffic. – It is inconvenient. But there are two large ferries, so we expect it to work, says Jacobsen. The car ferry “Virak” was built in 1979 and takes 199 passengers and 60 cars. The vessel belongs to the company Torghatten Nord. However, the ferry has been rebuilt and is in good technical condition, according to operations manager Alf Vidar Jakobsen. A ferry has crashed into the quay at Ågskardet, causing material damage to both the ferry and the ferry quay.
