– The father of the child jumped in and was taken by the body of water himself and taken further down, says Sigurd Børve who is the police station chief in Kvinnherad. The father of the Hungarian boy (13) who died after falling into a river in Bondhusdalen in Kvinnherad on Tuesday, was questioned the same day. The family of two adults and one child were on holiday in Norway and had been walking in the area. The child was out on a rock or ledge along the river to be photographed. Then he lost his balance, slipped, and went into the river. – Those involved were taken by the bodies of water, taken a short distance down and then got stuck in stones in the river, says Børve. The boy was later pronounced dead at the hospital. Several tried to save A passerby also tried to save the child, without success. Then the father also made another attempt. – This was the only child they had, says Børve. After not too long, the first units from fire and rescue and the police patrol in Odda arrived. – They tried out in the river, but two of the emergency personnel were themselves taken by the bodies of water, says Børve. The main rescue center sent more equipment and personnel, as the National Rescue Team and rescue divers arrived, and then they got the child ashore. – Even though life-saving first aid was started, and the child was brought to Haukeland, one had to assume that death had struck, says Børve. The police have created an investigation file, and are gathering information through statements and photographs. They will also carry out an autopsy to determine for sure what the cause of death was.
