Father and son have been sentenced – Greater Oslo

The German family business Aranis Klaas was behind the motor show. His father, Daniel Klaas, was the organizer. The son, Dean Klaas, was driving the car. In the Oslo District Court, the father has now been sentenced for failing to take security measures. The son has been convicted of negligent driving and breach of the Road Traffic Act. Five were injured In April 2022, Oslo woman Milla (40) was with her seven-year-old son in the parking lot at the Bjerke racetrack in Oslo to see a monster truck show. During the show, two passenger cars backed up at high speed. When they turned, one of them backed right into the stands. Fortunately, no lives were lost. But five people were injured. One of them was Milla. She suffered crushing injuries in both legs and one of them was the most severely injured. The son was lucky. He only got a bruise on his thigh after the bench he was sitting on broke. Here the car hit the grandstand. The woman who was injured wishes to remain anonymous. She calls herself “Milla” Photo: Beate Oma Dahle / NTB After the accident, the organizer of the motor show and the driver were prosecuted. Disappeared without a trace When the trial started in Oslo District Court in August, the two defendants were not present. They had disappeared. Several times in the past, the case has been postponed because the authorities have not been able to get hold of them. But this time the trial was nevertheless carried out. And Milla was present. – I was disappointed that they did not come, but happy that the case finally got started. Get over it. But she found it very tough. Not least watching videos and photos again of what happened. – It was like tearing off a plaster. – A bit surprised. Now the father has been sentenced to prison for 60 days and the son has been sentenced to prison for 45 days. It is stricter than what the prosecutor asked for. Lawyer Terje Korneliussen is defending the son. He is a little surprised by the verdict. – He has done nothing but drive this car. He has trusted his father, with the security system and everything that surrounds the event. – He believes that he has done what he could, by braking the car, which unfortunately went into the crowd. So I’m a little surprised, yes. He has not spoken to his client. And don’t know how he relates to the verdict. – It will be the next toast whether this is the subject of an appeal or not. Father and son are now wanted internationally for service of the verdict. – Mental stress Just over two years have passed since the accident at Bjerke in Oslo. Milla has put away her crutches, but she is still in pain. And nerve damage in one leg. – It is a psychological strain. The 40-year-old nurse has been reassigned to an office job. She works reduced hours. 50 percent. Milla is not too concerned that the organizer and the driver have been convicted. She is most concerned that they realize that they have made a mistake. – We victims have not heard any form of remorse or apology. She would have liked to have met them. – I only wish I could feel a handshake from them and look them in the eye. What would you say to them? – I didn’t want to say anything. Just see how they reacted and whether they might want to say something to me, concludes Milla. Published 26/08/2024, at 14.57 Updated 26.08.2024, at 15.15
