– It is clear that it is a happy day when we receive so many millions of kroner. This is money that will benefit the residents, says a satisfied Frøya mayor Kristin Strømskag (H) to news. The money will be used, among other things, for broadband development and the development of business areas. There will also be a few kroner on various village teams. Mayor Hilde Enstad (Ap) is pleased. – All income we receive is important, so every kroner is welcome, says Enstad to news. The municipality had budgeted 36 million, and thus gets 7 million more than they had expected. -How important is the farming industry for Kvinnherad? – We have over 40 locations in the municipality, so here we are talking about a very large aquaculture municipality. It is important that the municipalities know what they have to deal with, says Fisheries and Oceans Minister Bjørnar Skjæran. It applies to the sale of new salmon licenses and taxes on the production of farmed fish. The Directorate of Fisheries makes the payment. It will happen as soon as possible after the Storting has considered the proposal from the government. It will probably be before Christmas, and at the latest in the New Year. – The coastal municipalities play an important role in facilitating the farming industry, and the sum they now receive is greater than with the previous allocation. This means that these municipalities will receive more money for schools, kindergartens, care for the elderly and development in their local communities, says Fisheries and Oceans Minister Bjørnar Skjæran. The Aquaculture Fund Photo: Mowi The Aquaculture Fund was established in 2015. The money in the fund comes from the income the authorities have from growth in the farming industry and income from the tax on the production of salmon, trout and rainbow trout. The Directorate of Fisheries is responsible for the payments. All municipalities and county municipalities that receive money from the fund must have locations for farming salmon, trout and rainbow trout in seawater. The higher the share of locality capacity that the individual municipality/county municipality is registered with in the Aquaculture Register, the larger share of the funds to be distributed will accrue to them. Both municipalities and county councils receive money from the fund. The municipalities get the most with 7/8 of the fund, while the county municipalities get the rest. Mayor of the municipality, Ørjan Albrigtsen (KrF), says that the money means a lot. – When it now appears that we will get 5 million more than what we had included in the estimate, then it is a wonderful pre-Christmas present. The municipality has had a long-term commitment to aquaculture and plans to invest 100 million in a new industrial area. Albrigtsen says that they had not expected so much funding. – It is not only important for Skjervøy, but it is important for an entire region in Nord Troms because the arrangements we are making help to secure jobs and infrastructure in the region. 800 million extra The special thing this year is that the aquaculture fund has an extra 800 million to distribute to the farming municipalities in the country. This is money that will be distributed later if the Storting says yes. In that case, it will be the largest payment in a single year. In addition, the municipal sector will receive a further transfer in 2023. – It is important for predictability that the municipalities now know what they are allowed to route with. In the Hurdal platform, the government is clear that they will be left with a larger share of the value that is created. They do now. If we say it, we do it, says Skjæran. The Directorate of Fisheries is responsible for the payments. The money is given to both municipalities and county municipalities, where the municipalities receive the largest share.
