– Far beyond comprehension that VAR does not take it

Three minutes before the break, something happened that could have secured Bodø/Glimt a point – and decided Eliteserien 2024. Molde was awarded a penalty after Bodø/Glimt’s Brice Wembangomo served Molde’s Mads Enggård the ball alone with the goalkeeper – before he fouled him. When Ola Brynhildsen scored the penalty, the same Wembangomo was just over a meter inside the penalty area. According to the rulebook, it should be prohibited, and mean a new penalty kick. – Revisited Match referee Ola Hobber Nilsen has returned home after a hectic afternoon in Molde: – What I can say, based on that still image, is that if that was how I had experienced it, then there is a basis for taking that penalty kick again, says the judge to news today. Hobber Nilsen says that he – unlike goalkeeper Haikin – was a bit taken aback by Brynhildsen’s poor stop in the run-up, and did not see the Glimt defender far inside the field. But even if he would have awarded another penalty kick if he had seen it, the referee points to the fact that Uefa and Fifa have said that in every penalty kick there will be a player who crosses the line when the penalty kick is taken. – Practical refereeing is often about the advantage you gain when you cross over the line, for example if there had been a return from the goalkeeper to a player who had gone in too early. Hobber Nilsen nevertheless underlines that the rule is clear. Rule number 14 at the NFF states: “Players other than the one who is to take the penalty must: Not be inside the penalty area.” Nevertheless, this is not food for the video referees, when the overstepping does not give any advantage, says referee Nilsen – without him know the rationale for it. He does not change his view on video refereeing after yesterday’s fateful match. – We know that Haikin has most likely left the line, but that it cannot be proven with absolute certainty, says Kanestrøm. He points out that there is 40 milliseconds between each TV image in the VAR room, and that the ball therefore “looks like half a meter long sausage” when they freeze the image. – That is why VAR can never arrive at a more correct answer than the referees in this case, says the VAR opponent before he fires: – That Wembangomo managed to get one and a half meters into the field, on the other hand, while there are a handful of referees in Holberg’s place for to make football fairer and more precise is far beyond my comprehension. VAR manager Svein Oddvar Moen, for his part, believes that video refereeing is a clear development and progress. Should VAR care about players inside the box under penalty? No reply Chief referee Terje Hauge and VAR chief Svein Oddvar Moen have not replied to the inquiries from news today. Other Molde supporters news has spoken to say that Brynhildsen’s punishment was so weak that it did not deserve to be repeated. With a draw for Bodø/Glimt in this match, they are still at the top of the league, and can decide the league gold on their own. Molde are now seven points behind with three games to go, and have the most theoretical chances for the title. Published 04.11.2024, at 11.49 Updated 04.11.2024, at 15.20
