Extreme weather “Ingunn” has reached Finnmark – news Troms and Finnmark

While the worst storm has occurred in Nordland and Troms, “Ingunn” has reached Nord-Troms and Finnmark on Thursday evening. Almost all roads are closed along the coast from the Lyng Alps and as far north as Mehamn on the Finnmark coast. In both Troms and Finnmark, the police have advised people to stay inside and take the weather conditions into account. – Those who can postpone the drive and planned activities should do so, says chief of staff Tarjei Sirma-Tellefsen in the Finnmark police district. The storm means that the emergency hospital for Vest-Finnmark in Hammerfest is isolated again, after having been isolated earlier in the week. At Bardufoss, however, traffic is back on track. At Tromsø Airport, 220 travelers are without accommodation due to fully booked hotels in Tromsø city. Field beds and woolen blankets are now being prepared at the airport, writes VG. – We are working on emptying our own emergency stock of woolen blankets and stretchers to set up inside the airport, and the catering establishments stay open longer so that people can get food, says press officer Helene W. Jensen in Avinor to the newspaper. She says that Avinor is also working on connecting the Norwegian Defense Forces. All ferries in the region are also canceled on Thursday evening. Places such as Sørøya, Havøysund, Honningsvåg, Kjøllefjord and Mehamn are isolated. Heavy snow and wind make visibility in Finnmark very poor on Thursday evening. Extreme weather “Ingunn” is due to pass overnight until Friday, but another storm is expected to hit Norway already on Friday and Saturday. Rogaland, Vestland, Møre and Romsdal, Trøndelag, Nordland and southern Troms are affected by the same storm. The meteorologists have issued a warning that there will be a full to strong storm on the coast, and there may be wind gusts of 30-38 meters per second from the west. In a press release from the Norwegian Public Roads Administration, there is a warning about the consequences of another storm: – A lot of rainfall, high temperatures and wind increase the risk of snow, slush and landslides. The Norwegian Public Roads Administration warns road users that road sections and mountain passes may be closed at short notice. Keep an eye on traffic and weather reports, says a press release. At the same time, there is now a great danger of avalanches in the whole country: normal preparedness again Among the places that were hit hard by “Ingunn” was Harstad. The hospital in the city has resumed normal operations on Thursday evening, reports the University Hospital of Northern Norway (UNN). With that, the hospital goes from red to green readiness. UNN also states that clean-up is taking place outside the hospital, and that a temporary entrance has been established at the back. – A full overview of the extent of the damage must wait until Friday, the hospital says. Power cuts in Vesterålen A number of areas were without power on Thursday as a result of the storm. On Thursday evening, around 4,000 customers in Andøy municipality in Vesterålen are without electricity. This is shown by the online company Noranett’s overview. The municipality has therefore set up emergency staff for fear that the power cut could be prolonged. – We are aware that there may be a long-term loss of electricity in the municipality. The municipality’s crisis management has therefore implemented a contingency plan for this scenario, writes the municipality. They also fear that the mobile network on Andøy may fail as a result of the power cut. The municipality is now working on mapping users living at home who may need extra assistance, preparing for the possible evacuation of users from unsuitable homes and buildings, and obtaining an overview of premises with electricity supply, with the possibility of housing evacuees. They also state that there will be limited capacity when the electricity returns.
