Everything we know about “Stranger Things” season 5 – news Norway – Overview of news from different parts of the country

All good things are five. At least in this case. Remakes, sequels and prequels are not a new phenomenon. Recycling famous franchises has become more trendy than recycling plastic. Explanation of reboot, remake, prequel, sequel and spin-off It’s easy to get confused in an age where Hollywood is constantly creating new movies and series that are connected to familiar concepts. Here is a short explanation: Reboot: You start a familiar concept or franchise again. Then completely new actors, new stories and new characters are often used, but within a universe the viewers already know. Examples: “Star Trek”, “Fargo”, “Dynasty” Remake: A new version of a well-known film or series. Mostly completely new actors, but the story is mostly almost the same. Often, separate remakes are made in different countries – such as the TV series “Broen”, which received both an American and French-British version or a remake. Examples: “Dune”, “The Thing”, “Cats” Prequel: As the name suggests, a film or series that takes place earlier in time than the original. Often an origin story. Examples: “Prometheus”, “Red Dragon”, “Wonka” Sequel: A film or series in which the action chronologically follows the original and often has at least some of the same actors. Examples: “Top Gun: Maverick”, “Blade Runner 2049”, “Terminator 2: Judgment Day” Spin-off: A film or series that is only (distantly) related to a known concept or franchise. The story can take place many hundreds of years before or after the original, and is often about completely different genera or other parts of the known universe. Examples: “House of the Dragon” (from “Game of Thrones”), “Frasier” (from “Cheers”), “Better Call Saul” (from “Breaking Bad”) NOTE: Some of the terms are partly overlapping, as with “The Godfather Part II”, which can be considered both a precursor and sequel to “The Godfather”. “Mad Max: Fury Road” can be considered both a sequel and a reboot, and “The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power” is both a precursor and an offshoot. Here, we highlight five films and series that come with their fifth contribution in a row, a kind of pentalogy, within a not too long time. (In this context, “not too long” is relative.) You can cheat and skip directly if you want: 1. “Stranger Things” S5 2. “Shrek 5” 3. “Toy Story 5” 4. “The Boys » S5 5. “The Matrix 5” “Stranger Things” Season 5 Millie Bobby Brown as Eleven, Finn Wolfhard as Mike and Noah Schnapp as Will in the only glimpse the audience has seen of the upcoming final season. Photo: Netflix The neon-nostalgic 80s universe of the Duffer brothers, interspersed with cute groups of friends and terrifying monsters, has flowed across the TV screen since 2016. The series creators already said in February 2022 that season 5 will be the very last of the series. Several of the actors are also getting too old to play cute teenagers. Delayed The script was started in August 2022. In November, the creators shared that the first episode will be called “The Crawl”. Netflix has so far only shared this behind-the-scenes photo from the Season 5 filming of “Stranger Things.” From left: Noah Schnapp, Millie Bobby Brown, David Harbour, Winona Ryder, Cara Buono, Joe Keery, Amybeth McNulty, Charlie Heaton, Brett Gelman, Maya Hawke, Natalia Dyer, Jamie Campbell Bower, Priah Ferguson, Linda Hamilton, Gaten Matarazzo, Caleb McLaughlin, Ross Duffer, Matt Duffer, Finn Wolfhard and Sadie Sink. Photo: Atsushi Nishijima / Netflix The recording of the last season did not start until January this year. Like so many film and TV productions, it was delayed by the major industry strikes of 2013. But on July 3, director Ross Duffer shared a photo of the crew on Instagram and wrote, “Week 24. Good ‘halfway’ to the best cast and crew ever.” On July 15, on the 8th anniversary of the first season, a behind-the-scenes video from filming was released, in which the Duffer brothers say they are about halfway through. Photo: Ross Duffer / Instagram Actress Maya Hawke has talked in the podcast “Podcrushed” that the episodes in this season are so long that it is like making eight films. Netflix has so far not revealed anything about the premiere date for the first part. While fans had to wait three years for season 4, the Duffer brothers then claimed that there would be less time between seasons 4 and 5. But this was before the strike. Variety has written several times that the premiere will probably not be until 2025. Noah Schnapp, Finn Wolfhard, Gaten Matarazzo and Caleb Mclaughlin in “Stranger Things” season 2. Photo: Courtesy Netflix According to Teen Vogue, it is not likely that the premiere will be until late in 2025 or early 2026. In that case, at least three and a half years after season 4. But when season 4 finally arrived in the summer of 2022, the series became the most-streamed in the US that year. Ross Duffer previously said that Will, played by Noah Schnapp, will be at the center of Season 5. As for the plot, we know little other than that Season 5 will take place in Hawkins and in the mysterious Upside Down universe. The Duffer brothers tease with more answers to what the Upside Down really is, while promising to preserve the mystery. “Shrek 5” The troll Shrek in the first “Shrek” film from 2001. Not only that, but according to Variety, with both Mike Myers, Eddie Murphy and Cameron Diaz returning as voice actors. DreamWorks Animation is in production, they announced on July 9. By then, the rumors had already been circulating for some time. The gang from the first “Shrek” movie from 2001: Donkey, Shrek, Princess Fiona and Lord Farquaad. Photo: DreamWorks Pictures / AP/ NTB So far we have not found out if Antonio Banderas also laces up his boots again as Puss in Boots. On the other hand, we know that Walt Dohrn is the director. He also worked on “Shrek 2”, “Shrek the Third” and “Shrek: Happily Ever After”. The “Shrek” film series has been hugely popular. It was the first animated franchise to gross over one, two and three billion dollars. It landed at just over four billion. Donkey and Shrek in “Shrek the Third”. Not until this year did the “Despicable Me” franchise beat “Shrek”, when they reached five billion dollars at the box office with their sixth film. “Toy Story 5” Woody, Buzz, Jessie and Forky in “Toy Story 4” Photo: Disney / Pixar While we are talking about animated successes, we must mention that “Toy Story” itself has also entered the battle for the cinema audience in the summer of 2026. Disney CEO Bob Iger already told at the beginning of 2023 that Pixar was working on film number five. That despite a strong, heartbreaking and seemingly concluding film four. Pixar lives up to all expectations. The “Toy Story” franchise has grossed over three billion dollars, and the 1995 original was also the first animated feature to be made entirely with CGI. Tim Allen has confirmed that he will return as the voice of Buzz Lightyear. Tom Hanks, who is the voice behind the main character Woody, has not commented on the matter. The planned premiere date is in June 2026. “The Boys” season 5 Dominique McElligott as Queen Maeve and Antony Starr as Homelander in the first season of “The Boys”. Photo: Jan Thijs / Amazon Studios After two family-friendly animation tips, it’s time to jump abruptly and brutally to some of the grossest that has been served up on TV in recent years. The series “The Boys” has given us blood-spattered satire about superheroes, celebrity culture and politicians – and combinations of the three – since 2019. (Regardless, the franchise already has an additional spin-off addition in “Gen V”, but we choose to ignore that in this count.) Season 4 recently ended on Prime Video, but speculation is already underway about what we have in store for Season 5. – Bloody Climax We’ve known it was coming for a while, and series creator Eric Kripke himself has said that Season 5 will be the very last. – Overjoyed to be able to give the story a bloody, epic and moist climax, he wrote on X. Photo: Jasper Savage / Prime Video The final season will have eight episodes and will be recorded between November this year and mid-2025. The premiere could then come in the summer or autumn of 2026, but it also depends on “Gen V” season 2, which is being recorded now. According to People, it is expected that the main cast will return. Including Antony Starr, Erin Moriarty, Jack Quaid, Karl Urban and Chace Crawford. Antony Starr as the superhero Homelander in season 3 of “The Boys”. Photo: Prime Video According to Variety, Kripke is working to bring more “Supernatural” stars into the series after Jensen Ackles and Jeffrey Dean Morgan. He also has Jared Padalecki on his wish list. Considering that “The Boys” is read as a commentary on today’s political society, People believes it is likely that the presidential election in 2024 will color the final season. “The Matrix 5” Carrie-Anne Moss in “The Matrix Reloaded” from 2003. Photo: Village Roadshow Pictures’ / Courtesy of Warner Bros. Another well-known film franchise that has decided to go for five is “The Matrix” (no, we’re not counting the short film collection “Animatrix”). The iconic file series started in 1999, and has left a lot of traces in both popular culture and political reality. Among other things, the film’s use of a red pill and a blue pill has been adopted by far-right and anti-feminist forums, according to the encyclopedia Britannica. In the film, choosing the blue pill means you remain blissfully ignorant, while the red pill wakes you up to the brutal reality. It also stars Carrie-Anne Moss as Trinity. According to Entertainment Weekly, it is not known which of the stars will continue. This round, none of the Wachowski sisters are involved in directing, but Lana Wachowski is involved in the executive producer side. Drew Goddard, the man behind “The Cabin in the Woods”, is selected director. He will also write the script and produce with Sarah Esberg. Motion Pictures’ Jesse Ehrman has said that it was Goddard who came to them with the idea for a new film. They believe it will both honor what Lana and Lilly Wachowski have created, and at the same time add a new perspective “based on his own love for the film series and the characters.” Published 28/07/2024, at 17.09
