28 June 2024 at 09:54 Equinor starts investigation after Mongstad spill A spill of naphtha at Mongstad on 19 June has caused Equinor to start an internal investigation and notify the Norwegian Environment Agency. Naphtha is a petroleum fraction that is obtained by distillation of crude oil. – I can confirm that we have had a spill of naphtha at Mongstad. There have been spills from the tank to the ground at external facilities, says Ellen Maria Skjelsbæk, press spokesperson for acquisitions and land facilities at Equinor, to E24. To E24, Skjælsbæk describes the incident as very serious, and an incident they clearly should have avoided. The discharge is estimated at around 20 cubic meters, which corresponds to around 20,000 litres.
