Equinor starts investigation after Mongstad spill – news Vestland

A spill of naphtha at Mongstad on 19 June has caused Equinor to start an internal investigation and notify the Norwegian Environment Agency. – Equinor and Mongstad of naphtha from tank to ground, on what we call external facilities, says Ellen Maria Skjelsbæk, press officer for procurement and land facilities at Equinor. E24 reported on the case first. – This is a very serious incident that we would like to have avoided and that we must do our utmost to prevent it from happening again. The discharge is estimated at around 20 cubic meters, which corresponds to around 20,000 litres. The area was cordoned off immediately Equinor has notified all necessary authorities about the incident. – The release was discovered when we had results on a VOC meter at external facilities. This meant that we carried out further investigations and found the leak point, says Skjeldsbæk. – The area was then cordoned off immediately, and of course plans were made for the use of personal protective equipment for those who were to move around the area.
