Equinor postpones decision on the Wisting project – news Norway – Overview of news from various parts of the country

The investment decision in the development of the Wisting field is postponed, according to Equinor. The development of the oil field is politically controversial. The decision to put money into the project was actually supposed to be made in December. – The work to develop the project continues with the aim of an investment decision by the end of 2026, writes Equinor in a press release. The license is shared by Equinor, Aker BP, Petoro and Idemitsu. All of these are behind the postponement. Equinor writes that they believe the investment will end up at NOK 104 billion. – Now Equinor has said a few minutes ago that there will be nothing from the Wisting field now anyway. That they have found out that it doesn’t pay. I think that is perhaps a wise assessment based on the risk, says Climate and Environment Minister Espen Barth Eide (Ap) to Nyhetsmorgen. – It is an economic assessment, and not a political assessment? – This is an important part of the big debate, because there has been talk of more oil towards the north.
