Elisabeth Årseth Dimmen’s cat took the ferry from Sæbø to Trandal – news Møre og Romsdal – Local news, TV and radio

The four-year-old cat Sigrun or Stripa, as she is also called, is a familiar sight in the tiny village of Sæbø on Sunnmøre. In summer, there are tourists here and the cat is a lovely photo subject. – Sigrun is more like a dog. She is a social type and goes for walks with us, says mother Elisabeth Årseth Dimmen. In December, the cat suddenly disappeared. She never usually goes out at night, so the family was worried when she didn’t come home. They searched everywhere, called out to her and checked if she could be locked up somewhere. Thought the cat was dead. The search yielded no results and in time the family feared the worst. – I thought that the fox had taken her or that she had been hit. She was not afraid of cars and often sat in the middle of the road, says Dimmen. It is daughter Karoline who owns the cat, but she works in the Armed Forces in Bardufoss. When she came home from the Christmas holidays and the cat was gone, there was sadness in the home. – We have had many cats, but Sigrun is very special, says Elisabeth. Per Kato Trandal was determined to adopt the cat, as no one at Trandal knew of it. Sigrun has had a bath here and she didn’t particularly like it. Blind passengers on the ferry Four weeks after the disappearance, a picture of Sigrun suddenly appeared on a Facebook group. The cat was found on the other side of the fjord. In the roadless village of Trandal. Sigrun hasn’t swam, but must have simply wondered on board the ferry. In the first few weeks, no one has seen the cat, but this weekend Per Kato Trandal and his daughter Frida suddenly came across the meowing cat when they were at grandma’s for dinner. It was below zero, and Per Kato thought the cat had to go home to its owner. He was sure that the striped cat belonged to the neighbor two kilometers away. He agreed over the phone that he could let the cat into the basement since the neighbor had moved away. The problem was that Sigrun was not the neighbour’s cat at all. The next day she was again standing on the stairs at Grandma’s and meowing. Then they understood that the way cat owners are wanted in social media. In the meantime, Sigrun got both plenty of food and a bath. – We were determined to adopt her. Now we have to get another cat, says Per Kato. She must have survived on mice or something, says Elisabeth. On Monday morning, the cat and stepmother finally got to meet again. Then Sigrun got on the ferry together with Per Kato and Frida, who were going to kindergarten. The cat is thinner than usual and has been given both fish and extra treats to fatten up. – From now on, we have to make sure that she doesn’t travel by ferry. Or agree with the crew that they must put her ashore if they discover a stowaway, Elisabeth laughs.
