Electric car started to burn during rapid charging – news Vestland

On the night of Saturday just after 02.00, an electric car that was waiting for rapid charging at Circle K in Åsane in Bergen caught fire. Nickolai Rweyendela Mongstad was going into the petrol station to buy food, but stayed in the car in the car park to write some messages. – Then I heard a small bang and a kind of “pshhh” sound. He didn’t think much of it, until a man ran into the petrol station and picked up the owner. – I drove forward to see what happened. Then I saw a lot of smoke coming from under the car and I pulled up the camera, says Mongstad. Scary As you can see in the video above, it suddenly started to burn. Monstad thinks it was most dramatic when the fire started. Several people around him were thrown well when there was a bang from the exploding tyre. Elles says that it was a fire that developed calmly. – But I think it is frightening that this can happen with electric cars that are waiting to be charged. That fire could not have been environmentally friendly in any way, says Mongstad. Completely engulfed in flames When the fire brigade arrived at the city, the electric car was fully engulfed in flames. – We learned that it was completely engulfed in flames, says Shahrooz Lahoti, duty commander in 110 West. The charging post also caught fire. But there was no danger that the fire could spread. The danger of explosion was not great either, since the fire was some distance from the petrol pumps. – Generally speaking, petrol stations have good routines for what they do when it comes to burning, he says. An hour after the fire brigade arrived on the scene, the fire was extinguished. The fire is being investigated From time to time fire crews go out to car fires. When there are electric car fires, they are extra alert, says the watch commander. – Electric car fires can be more complicated to put out due to the lithium in the battery. It has intensity in the fire, explains Lahoti. He adds that he does not know what caught fire in the electric car, whether it was the battery or something else. Operations manager Steinar Hausvik in the West police district says the fire is being investigated.
