In Sarpsborg, the Labor Party has had the mayor for 110 years. Now the incumbent red-green board in Sarpsborg has lost its majority in the industrial municipality. This means that the Conservative Party can take over governance in Sarpsborg, if they secure a majority with some of the town’s smaller parties. – My number one job is to ensure that more sarpings get a way back into working life. We have far too many people in Sarpsborg who are outside, says Høyre’s mayoral candidate Magnus Arnesen. This is an increase of 16.7 percentage points compared to the election in 2019. – I am very grateful for the trust shown in us by the voters in Sarpsborg. We must take very good care of it, says Arnesen. To get a majority in Sarpsborg, you need at least 22 mandates. This is what the distribution of mandates looks like in the municipality now: The municipal council in Sarpsborg Sarpsborg has undefined seats in the municipal council. The places are distributed as follows: I think Støre must go – I don’t understand how they are going to be able to run the municipality by cutting property tax. Where are they going to get the money from? When the jubilation has died down, everyday life comes to them too, says Øystein Haglund. He is an industrial worker at the cornerstone company Borregaard, and has voted for the Labor Party almost all his life. If it had been a football team, Støre would not have been allowed to sit as a coach, says Haglund, who is also a long-standing trade unionist. For over 40 years, Øysten Haglund has entered through the gates at Borregaard to get to work. He is disappointed with this year’s election results. While the Labor Party is declining, both the Conservative Party and the FRP are rising. In total, the two parties get 18 out of 43 mandates in the municipal council. – It is a trend that we are now seeing all over the country, which is now also affecting Sarpsborg. We must take note of that, says Thorbjørnsen. Mayoral candidate Therese Thorbjørnsen (Ap) addressed a silent gathering in Sarpsborg on Monday evening.
