Eight Belgian soldiers have been charged with violence after a mass fight at Åndalsnes in Rauma – news Møre og Romsdal – Local news, TV and radio

This is what the public prosecutor in Møre and Romsdal, Ingvild Thorn Nordheim, told news. – We have prosecuted eight of these soldiers for grievous bodily harm, bodily harm and disorderly conduct, she says. On the night of Sunday 18 February, several tens of people gathered outside Nabo’n pub in Åndalsnes. Among those involved were a number of special soldiers from the Belgian armed forces. Earlier this week, it was clear that a total of eight were targeted after the incident. Now the public prosecutor has decided that they will bring charges against them. – We believe that they have committed criminal offenses against the offended party. We have identified every single soldier and have good evidence that they have carried out the actions for which they are now charged, says Nordheim. Must appear in court in September The case will appear in Møre og Romsdal district court 3–6. September. The Belgian special forces are a battalion of paratroopers who are on winter training at Møre og Fjordane Home Guard District 11 (HV-11). The rehearsal lasts until 8 March. – We have had good contact with the Belgian military about the accused coming to testify in September. The indictment and the atmosphere have been announced to all the defendants so they are familiar with when they have to come back, says Nordheim. – Can they freely leave the country when the training is finished? – Yes. We have good faith that they will come back, says Nordheim. Locals may be targeted Police attorney Anders Skorpen-Trøen says it is likely that they will also target people from the local population after a mass brawl in Åndalsnes. – It is very likely that we will. We are working to identify them to be sure that we have selected the right people, and then it makes sense to interview them before they are possibly targeted. In that case, they will be charged with disturbing the peace, says the police attorney.
