Several news tipsters report an earthquake on the coast of western Norway on Wednesday afternoon. – We have received a lot of alerts, says seismologist at Norsar Bettina Goertz-Allmann. She says they have estimated the earthquake to be of magnitude 4, and that the core is around 60 kilometers west of Florø in Vestland. According to EMSC, an international organization that collects information on earthquake registrations around the world, an earthquake with a magnitude of 3.3 has been recorded in southern Norway. Most of the people who have tipped off news are from the north in old Sogn og Fjordane and Sunnmøre. – It was more like a whirlwind at first, then the kitchen cabinet started to rattle and you could feel the house shaking, says Hilde-Bjørg Almklov Hermansen. She lives in Sundal in Vanylven municipality in Sunnmøre, and felt the earthquake just after 12 o’clock. It is only months since an almost equally large earthquake occurred off the coast of Nordmøre: In Kalvåg in Bremanger, Ane Jørgine Frøyen was at the physiotherapy clinic when she noticed a very large rumbling and shaking. At first she suspected that there was something wrong with her equipment. – The whole room shook very much. I turned off all the equipment and ran out. Then it was clear that it was rumbling outside too, she says. She said that the shaking lasted for over ten seconds. This is the first time she has experienced an earthquake. – I didn’t think it was anything pleasant, says Frøyen.
