26 October 2022 at 09:51 Drone sighting in Russia appeals detention to the Supreme Court The Russian man who was arrested for flying a drone in Ullensvang in Hardanger last week has decided to remand in custody. This is what the man’s defender, Einar Råen, tells news. The Gulating Court of Appeal decided yesterday that the man in his 30s should be remanded in custody until 18 November, after the police had appealed to the district court to release him. – The knowledge has now, together with a Russian interpreter, been reviewed with my client. He has decided to appeal the case, says Råen. The Russian is charged with illegal drone flying. He himself has admitted to flying a drone in Hardanger, but believes he did not know it was illegal. According to himself, he took pictures of nature for private use. The district court thought he should be set free because he had not taken pictures of important infrastructure. The Court of Appeal nevertheless held that the act was so serious that the man should be imprisoned. The case will now be assessed by the Supreme Court.
