The quartet received the award in connection with a dinner during the WC in Oberhof. It is the board of the International Biathlon Union (IBU) that selects candidates for the honour. The four stars took a staggering 17 Olympic gold medals, 40 World Cup titles, 221 World Cup victories and ten overall victories during their eventful careers. – All four athletes deserve this recognition for their incredible achievements and the extraordinary contributions they have made to biathlon during their careers, says IBU President Olle Dahlin. – They inspired us with their achievements and set the standard for countless athletes who follow in their footsteps, he adds. Ole Einar Bjørndalen, often referred to as the king of biathlon, won 13 Olympic medals, including eight gold, during five Winter Games.
