Does not sharpen the criticism against Brenna – news Norway – Overview of news from various parts of the country

The FRP and the Conservative Party have concluded that Brenna deserves “strong criticism” from the Storting, something the KrF is also considering voting for when the matter comes to a vote in the Storting hall next week. However, the Liberal Party is in line with the majority in the Storting, which only wants to express a milder form of criticism against Brenna. And this picture will not be changed until the Storting goes to the vote on Tuesday next week. This is stated by the case mayor Grunde Almeland to news, even though Dagens Næringsliv came up with what appears to be completely new information just before the control committee issued its recommendation earlier today. – The Liberals are confident in the criticism we have made. We have already uncovered the core of the case with the information that the committee had available, says Almeland to news. The essence of the DN case is, in short, that the then Minister of Knowledge, Tonje Brenna (Ap), was informed that her ministry gave millions of dollars in support to Utøya AS, one year before she declared herself incompetent in the case. – Known for many years Nor is SV, which was out early and protected Brenna, likely to change its conclusions until the hearing in the Storting. – It takes a lot for us to change our view. In scope, it is clearly less serious than Erna Solberg’s case. In addition, Brenna took the initiative to disclose the matter herself and clean it up, says SV’s Audun Lysbakken to news. Employment and Inclusion Minister Tonje Brenna herself believes that there is little new in the DN case. – The collaboration between the Wergeland Center and Utøya AS has been known for many years. I explained that, among other things, in my letter to the committee from 27 June. An attachment was also sent there from 2022 where this collaboration is explained, says Brenna to news. She believes that the core of the error she has committed is that she was not aware that this collaboration was so close that financial support can be counted on. – I myself discovered the mistakes I made and have always been open and honest about them. I’ve had a desire to clean up from the start, says Brenna. She says she is taking note of the conclusion and will now continue the political work with full force. Proposes changes in routines The control committee is concerned that the integrity errors committed last year should not happen again. The committee therefore proposes the following: That the government carry out a transversal analysis of how the ministries carry out training in the competence regulations, how it is practiced, and how the civil service assists political leadership. The committee asks the government to consider designing a common model practice that is used as a minimum in all ministries. The committee also asks the government to put forward a proposal with a proposal to renew the competence regulation in the Public Administration Act. The proposal must be put forward so that it can be processed in the current parliamentary term. They also ask the government to consider introducing a routine to put in writing integrity assessments made by ministers, state secretaries and political advisers, as well as to consider a greater degree of transparency about integrity assessments carried out by political leadership in the ministries. They ask the government to carry out a review of current routines and regulations, where it is both clearer which guidelines are regulated at which level, and at the same time assesses what should be regulated at which level. (Source: Control committee leader Grunde Almeland) Missing information Frp deputy leader Hans Andreas Limi believes the DN case sharpens the seriousness of Brenna’s case. At today’s press conference, he questioned whether APS’ deputy leader has informed the Storting well enough. After working on the competency cases for seven months, the recommendation came on Wednesday afternoon. Photo: Terje Pedersen / NTB – The information in Dagens Næringsliv which came just before the committee’s submission, may indicate that Brenna has chosen to withhold information from the Storting, says Limi. Almeland in Venstre is also critical of the fact that Brenna has apparently not shared all information with the Storting. – It is disappointing. It has been clear from the committee’s side that we wanted all relevant information, and there have been plenty of opportunities to send it over the nine months we have carried out our investigations, says Almeland. But the Labor Party’s committee member Frode Jacobsen insists that the information has been available to the Storting all along. – The letter Tonje Brenna sent the committee on 27 June last year contains the information that DN is also now talking about. So there is nothing new in those cases, he says. Strong criticism The Conservative Party believes there is reason to promote strong criticism against its own party leader Erna Solberg, but also against the Ap politicians Tonje Brenna and Anniken Huitfeldt. Here, the Conservative Party is not in line with the majority in the control committee, which only advocated “criticism” of Tonje Brenna. – Brenna’s case is highly objectionable because she has not given the ministry the information they needed to assess her competence. She has not assessed her own competence despite a direct request, and because the case led to the invalidity and reversal of a board appointment, says the committee’s chairman Peter Frølich. But the Labor Party, SV, Sp, Venstre, MDG and Rødt therefore believe that Solberg’s case is far more serious than Brenna’s. – Erna Solberg’s case clearly stands out. It concerns very extensive breaches of integrity over a period of eight years, while she was prime minister and the highest person responsible for the government and the country, says Frode Jacobsen in Ap. – As prime minister, she was incompetent in a large number of cases that were dealt with by her government and she did not fulfill her duty to investigate, he continues.
