3 May 2023 at 13:46 Not appealing vehicular manslaughter verdict The woman who was convicted of negligent contributory homicide after the accident in which Lena Maria Aase (18) died, is not appealing the verdict. The judgment is thus legally binding. – The whole case has been a big burden for her, and hopefully she will be able to lead a more normal life in time. She has not had that as long as this case has been going on, says the woman’s defender Kjetil Ottesen to news. BT mentioned the case first. The woman was initially acquitted of negligent vehicular manslaughter in the district court, but the case was appealed to the Gulating Court of Appeal. There, Aase’s now 19-year-old friend was sentenced to ten months in prison. The family of the woman writes in a statement that the accident is “a big open wound that will never fully heal”. “In sum, this has become too much to bear. She can’t take it anymore. We do not agree with the verdict, but she cannot bear to prolong an already long and unbearable process. And we have to respect that,” the family writes in the statement.
