Raúl Ruidíaz Sparks Controversy with Post-Game Video After Universitario’s Struggling Performance

In a recent display of  disappointment  and  frustration  from fans, the sports world witnessed a significant uproar following  Universitario’s  4-0 defeat to Brazilian giants  Palmeiras  in the  Copa Libertadores . The match took place at the  Monumental Stadium , where the team, under the management of  Jorge Fossati , experienced one of the worst performances in its history.

Raúl Ruidíaz shared a controversial video on his Instagram account.

Among the fallout from this disastrous game, former  Universitario  star,  Raúl Ruidíaz , who has become a notable figure in the football community, took to his  social media  to express himself. In a move that surprised many, he shared a video on Instagram of himself singing the song  “I want to put you in four”  by  Neutro/ Blessd  and  Javielo . This choice of song became a  lightning rod  for backlash.

Reacting to the defeat, Ruidíaz’s video quickly went  viral , but not in a way that he might have expected. Many  followers  of Universitario felt it was highly inappropriate, given the team’s poor showing. The 35-year-old, who sported a beaming smile while referencing the song, also included phrases in Portuguese that hinted at celebration: “Oh, my God,” “Something will happen now,” and “today, something is going to happen.” Such comments struck a nerve among fans who were still reeling from the match.

Ruidíaz’s return to  Peruvian football  this season grabbed significant attention after spending eight and a half years abroad. He started his professional career at Universitario, showcasing his talents during his memorable stints in 2009 and 2013 when he helped the team secure crucial titles.

Despite his strong connection to Universitario, the player ended up signing with  Atlético Grau  after negotiations with  Ayacucho FC  fell through. He made his anticipated comeback in April 2024, accumulating playing time under coach  Ángel David Commizzo . Since joining  Atlético Grau , Ruidíaz has demonstrated his scoring abilities, netting  seven goals and providing one assist  across 15 matches.

As the season progresses,  Ruidíaz’s contract  with  *Atlético Grau * has been extended until  December 2029 , ensuring that he remains a valuable asset in the  north of the country . Despite the ongoing challenges, he continues to compete vigorously within Peruvian football.

Ruidíaz again faced Universitario on the field during the  Clausura 2025 tournament , where so much anticipation surrounded this clash. However, much like the earlier encounter, his team struggled, and  Atlético Grau  suffered a 3-1 loss at the hands of Universitario. This match marked Ruidíaz’s second meeting against his former club this year.
