The rest of the opposition parties voted against. Justice Minister Peter Hummelgaard says that he understands that many people react to the legislation, but that they prioritize the country’s security. Hummelgaard has previously referred to Koran burning as “meaningless actions with the aim of creating discord and hatred”. – Since July, there have been over 526 reported demonstrations with burnt Korans or flags. They have only been held for the purpose of provoking negative reactions, he says. The parties that are against the law believe that it restricts freedom of expression. – The law is designed to inhibit freedom of expression and artistic freedom.
