Denmark announces legislative changes after the documentary “The Black Swan” – news Urix – Foreign news and documentaries

Several hundred thousand Norwegians have seen the series. In Denmark, around 2 million watched the first episode. And the reactions have been many – so many that both Danish elected officials and ministers met today in the Ministry of Justice. There they discussed how to strengthen efforts against the type of crime revealed in the series. Minister of Justice Peter Hummelgaard from the Social Democrats tells a press conference that there will now be changes to the law based on the revelations in the documentary, writes Danmarks radio. The documentary “The Black Swan” was a collaboration between Danish TV 2 and news. Hummelgaard says that the Government will present a bill to strengthen money laundering controls and the system of self-petition by trustees. – There is something wrong when you can appoint your own executor and that person can be incompetent to deal with the case, says the Minister of Justice. The mole Amira Smajic, who is trained as a lawyer, was a mole in Copenhagen’s criminal underworld for ten years. Amira Smajic handed over all the material she had collected to journalists. The result was the documentary series “The Black Swan”. Smajic later tried to stop the streak, without success. Smajic is now living in mortal danger, and lives at an unknown address. Photo: FROM THE BRENNPUNKT DOCUMENTARY THE BLACK SWAN In the Brennpunkt series, she shows how gang criminals collaborate with named lawyers, businessmen and contractors to evade taxes and launder money. The full names of those involved are disclosed. Everything is documented with a hidden camera at a law office in Copenhagen. Smajic himself claims to have contributed to crime for over NOK 2 billion. Strong reactions The Danish journalist Peter Vesterlund is one of the people behind “The Black Swan”. – There have been very strong reactions from politicians, mostly from all parties. That’s because it’s seen by so many people. In Denmark. When people see what is happening, they become angry, and a mood arises in the population which means that the parties have to comment on this, says Vesterlund to news. He says that there have already been several proposals from the political parties about how to end the crime seen in the series. – In Denmark, there is already a lot of legislation on how gangs should be affected. But there are not many laws that affect those who help the criminals to commit the acts. Systematic cooperation – The cooperation between the underworld, represented by the gangs, and the “upper world”, represented by, among others, lawyers, business people and entrepreneurs, takes place systematically, says the journalist. For the police, it is not new that economic crime takes place on the scale it does. – Last year, it emerged in a report that money was laundered to the tune of 68 billion in Denmark. This came as a surprise to many Danes, and now there is a strong reaction, says Vesterlund.
