Demands a salary increase that gives increased purchasing power – news Norway – Overview of news from different parts of the country

Increased purchasing power will be an important requirement in this year’s salary settlement. This is evident from the proposal to LO’s representative board today. – It is clear that many of our members put their trust in a solid wage settlement. And it will be our task not to disappoint them, says LO leader Peggy Hessen Følsvik. Friday saw the year’s most important figure for the salary settlement. The Technical Calculation Committee (TBU) has estimated the price increase for 2024, a figure which lays the basis for the wage settlement. The estimate from TBU says that prices will rise 4.1 per cent in 2024. Wages must exceed this if purchasing power is to be increased, according to LO. Prepared for a strike Last year, the pay settlement resulted in a major strike that lasted for many days. Last year’s strike does not scare LO leader Peggy Hessen Følsvik, who is prepared for another major strike during this year’s pay settlement. She believes that increased prices and interest rates are causing people to struggle financially, and that this year’s settlement will be about increased wages and purchasing power. – After years of high inflation and an increasingly tough interest rate level, increased salaries are the most important thing for our members, says Følsvik. This year’s wage negotiations start on 15 March, and LO clearly states that the settlement will reverse the trend of several years in a row of weakened purchasing power. Therefore, the forecast for price growth becomes a decisive key figure.
