news has asked the county councils and Nye Veier AS what is the status of the mapping the road authority requested in May 2023. The county councils manage county roads in Norway, but not national roads and municipal roads. Their mapping will therefore not clarify all the bridges within the county boundaries. Nye Veier is responsible for, among other things, European roads and National Road 13. Below are the answers news has received. Trøndelag: This was not prioritized in the bridge inspections carried out in 2023, as we have other issues with the bridges that we had to prioritize. However, we have notified the Norwegian Roads Administration that we will start such registration in 2024. Akershus: In the bridge management system of Akershus County Municipality, collision-prone transitional bridges with a vulnerability to collision are registered. This has been done for several years already, and quality is basically ensured by carrying out and registering annual inspections on the bridges. Many of the footbridges exposed to traffic that cross the county roads are owned by the municipality. It is then the municipality’s responsibility to ensure safety and function for these, if necessary. initiate action. Østfold: A survey was carried out of all footbridges that could be vulnerable in the event of a collision in Østfold County Municipality’s ownership last autumn, in accordance with letter sent by the Directorate of Roads on 5 May 2023. The mapping showed that we only have one bridge, of the light footbridge type, where this could apply. An assessment of the condition of the bridge itself and of traffic safety was then carried out. We looked at the clearance under the bridge, the location and type of road as well as the type of traffic that passes underneath. The conclusion was that the bridge is only vulnerable because it is a type of light footbridge. Our assessment as of now is that no measures are necessary to further reduce the risk of a collision, or the consequences of a collision. Should the situation change, measures will be assessed on an ongoing basis. Østfold County Municipality has completed the mapping at this stage. Vestland: There are eleven bridges that we have assessed as vulnerable to collisions. Six of these are the same ones that Bergen municipality has assessed as vulnerable. In addition, there are six more bridges that we will carry out further assessments of before we conclude whether they are vulnerable to collisions. Of the six bridges that we will make further assessments of, there are the following owners; three pieces. the county municipality, two nos. Bane Nor and one pc. is private. There is a county road under all the bridges. For each bridge, an assessment will be made of which measures should be carried out to secure the bridge. Rogaland: We in Rogaland have three such bridges with the same type of structure and with a limited opening underneath. No damage has been recorded to these. Two of the bridges have gallows (height gauges) at the front. The gallows ensures that vehicles are stopped before they reach the bridge itself. We are also considering establishing such a gallows on the last one. Agder: We have registered a bridge on the county roads in Agder that is vulnerable to collisions in accordance with The Road Directorate’s letter. There is a bridge called “Nedenes Vestre G/S bridge”. It is of the “pedestrian bridge no. 2” type (U-element in concrete) and is vulnerable to collisions. We have included the bridge in our list of measures to be carried out, but we have not decided what the solution will be. Current solutions in this case may be raising, strengthening or replacement. Møre and Romsdal: We have no vulnerable bridges that cross county roads. Finnmark: We do not have such bridges on county roads in Finnmark. Buskerud: We have surveyed vulnerable pedestrian and cycle bridges for which Buskerud County Council is responsible, and have come to the conclusion that there are eight. New Roads: All our roads and bridges are built according to current laws and regulations. Nye Veier has a total of 33 constructions that cross busy roads. These have been assessed with regard to vulnerability to collision and we have not registered any in BRUTUS, so they are not registered to be vulnerable to collision. They are inspected annually through a so-called simple inspection. Every five years there is a main inspection. (Brutus is a management system for bridges, ferry quays and other load-bearing structures. The system contains information on all bridges on the national and county road network, including inspections with bridge condition. In the system you can also enter descriptions of measures with costs, and plan when measures are to be carried out).
