Show us your cards, Erna! That was the demand from Prime Minister and Labor leader Jonas Gahr Støre to Conservative Party leader Erna Solberg on Friday. And now Solberg shows the cards – at least some of them – and makes visible what she would bet on if she ruled the country. – We spend less oil money than the government, almost 5 billion less in half a year’s budget. We also have some clearer priorities on family finances for families with children, she says to news. – With our proposal, almost 50,000 children who cannot really afford it will be offered a holiday in the summer, adds Conservative deputy leader Henrik Asheim. The Conservative Party reprioritises NOK 6.2 billion. Around 5 billion in reduced use of oil money. The Conservative Party receives income from de-bureaucratisation and efficiency measures of 690 million. The party saves 206 million by not creating new counties and collects 55 million in extraordinary income from licensing power in the counties. Cuts in the public sector The government plans to spend an extra 56 oil billion in its revised budget. It is primarily increased expenses as a result of the Ukraine war and compensation to hospitals, police and defense for increased prices that are the reasons for increased spending. Photo: Trond Stenersen / news With 100 days left until election night, Erna Solberg and deputy leader Henrik Asheim ended a longer tour of Western Norway yesterday. Before meetings with voters at Torgallmenningen in Bergen, they revealed some figures from the Conservative Party’s revised budget. The Conservative Party believes, among other things, that there is room for cuts in the public sector and in the county municipalities. Asheim says it is important for the Conservative Party to hold back on public spending and reduce the use of oil money: – It is an important signal that we have to tighten that part. Erna Solberg emphasizes at the same time that the Conservative Party supports both Ukraine measures and compensation for price increases. – You criticize the government for irresponsible spending and spend 5 billion less, but is there anything more responsible in the big picture? – Yes, and it shows that we can prioritize some public expenditure and make those choices, says Solberg. Photo: Kristian Skårdalsmo When asked where the Conservative Party will get the last four billion the party cuts in the use of oil money, Solberg points to the financial proposal, which will come out on Friday. – Then the whole list will be there, so you can wait in suspense, she says. To the AP leaders’ demand to “show the cards”, Solberg says this: – This is just nonsense on Jonas’ part. He has had hundreds of proposals in his time as prime minister about public spending, before he has presented his entire budget, and has not said what he will cut. – He knows very well that when we have entered next week, and the finance committee has finished its proposal, then all this will become public knowledge. This is three days of spin on the part of the government. Requires more answers The Labor Party’s Jan Christian Vestre is not impressed by the Høyre’s new plan: – The Høyre’s budget is still completely in the blue, because Erna Solberg gives with one hand and takes much more with the other without us seeing where the cuts are coming from. So the challenge is whether we are going to fire police officers, are we going to fire people in kindergartens or are we going to fire people in care for the elderly in order to implement the Conservative Party’s economic policy? asks Aps deputy. Vestre also questions Høyre’s rhetoric. – The Conservative Party has made a big fuss about the use of oil money, then we expected that Erna Solberg would make a big cut and make significant cuts. Of the 56 billion we spend more on oil money, it is only 5 billion less that Erna Solberg will spend, i.e. a symbolic sum, says Vestre, who repeats the demand that the Conservative Party must show all its cards.
