June 22, 2022 at 20:39 Media: Eight accused after Maradona’s death Eight doctors, among them Diego Maradona’s personal doctor, are accused of having contributed to the football legend’s death in 2020, reports the news agencies EFE and AFP. According to EFE, the eight people have been charged with murder with possible intent. Prosecutors allege that health workers failed to provide Maradona with vital assistance, and that they “left him to his fate” when he was hospitalized before he died. A court in the province of San Isidro outside the Argentine capital Buenos Aires has ruled that the case should go to court. It is not yet known when the case will start. The penalty for murder with possible intent is in Argentina up to 25 years in prison, writes EFE. The newspaper La NaciĆ³n is among other media that have covered the case. Maradona died of heart failure in November 2020. Shortly before, he had been hospitalized, where he underwent surgery for a brain haemorrhage. The prosecution states that no attempt was made to save the football legend’s life, and that there was an “internal acceptance” of the fatal outcome. Maradona’s personal doctor Lepoldo Luque is among the eight defendants in the case. The others are a psychiatrist, a psychologist, a doctor who coordinated Maradona’s home nursing, a head nurse, two nurses and a doctor.
