15 July 2023 at 17:54 Screaming with joy for surprising European Championship bronze Kitty Friele Faye (21) took bronze in the pole vault during the U23 European Athletics Championships in Espo, Finland, on Saturday evening. She managed that by going over 4.40 in her first attempt. It is also a personal record, and Faye howled with joy when she saw that the list remained. – It was a lot of joy, she says smiling to news. Her old record was 4.30, a height she needed three attempts to get over in the EC competition. – I didn’t expect a medal at all, but I dreamed about it, says Faye. Marie-Julie Bonnin of France won the competition with a leap of 4.50, while Elien Vekemans was second with 4.45. Faye’s bronze means that the Norwegian success in the championship continues. On Friday evening, both Håvard Bentdal Ingvaldsen (400 meters) and Henrik Flåtnes (long) won gold, while Henriette Jæger took silver and set a Norwegian record for 400 meters. – It’s fucking cool to be a part of. It’s really nice when there are many people who do well, says Kitty Friele Faye.
