A long and rich career is over for Edvald Boasson-Hagen (37). On Sunday, the 37-year-old cycled his last ride, during the one-day classic Paris-Tours in France. – It feels good, but also strange, of course, that it is my last ride, he told the organizer before the start. Boasson-Hagen announced the end of his career in August and explained that he wanted to find something new and spend more time with his family. He rounds off his career with 81 professional victories, including three stage victories in the Tour de France, one in the Giro d’Italia, one World Championship silver and a number of National Championship titles. The cyclist from Rudsbygda has been among Norway’s best riders for a number of years, and made his professional debut for Team Columbia in 2008. He has since been central to teams such as Team Sky, MTN-Qhubeka and Team Total Direct Énergie. His last ride was for the Decathlon AG2R La Mondiale. – The time had come to give up, and I am happy to have made the decision, said Boasson Hagen, who also revealed that he had been struggling with a small cold recently. He was never able to fight for the win at the career point and was hooked by the smaller tight group before the finish. Erik Nordsæter Resell was the best Norwegian in 17th place, while French Christophe Laporte won the last one-day classic of the year.
