Costa Verde Closure Details

The Metropolitan Municipality of Lima (MML) has officially announced a total closure of vehicular traffic along the Costa Verde Beach Circuit this Sunday, April 26. This measure is taken to facilitate the IRONMAN 70.3 Lima – Peru 2026 international event.

Timing and Affected Areas

The closure will take place from 3:00 AM to 11:00 AM in both directions, securing the road section from Virú Street in San Miguel to Defensores del Morro avenue (formerly Huaylas) in Chorrillos. This restriction will significantly impact access from several districts, including Magdalena del Mar, San Isidro, Miraflores, Barranco, and Chorrillos.

In total, 18 main access points will be blocked in coordination with the National Police of Peru (PNP) and local municipal staff. Authorities recommend that residents and drivers remove their vehicles from the coastal circuit to ensure cleanliness and safety during the event.

Impact on Local Traffic

The closure will require adjustments in mobility throughout Lima, especially for individuals who rely on the Costa Verde for quick access between districts or for reaching the Jorge Chavez airport. As such, it is crucial for motorists to plan alternative routes to avoid delays.

Alternative Routes

If you’re traveling from north to south, consider using the following streets:

  • Waterfront Avenue
  • Bertoloto Avenue
  • Brazil Avenue
  • Javier Prado
  • Paseo de la República Expressway

For south to north traffic, recommended avenues include:

  • Chorrillos Avenue
  • Pedro de Osma Avenue
  • Miguel Grau
  • Reducto
  • José Pardo
  • Del Ejército
  • Jirón Salaverry
  • Peace Avenue

Airport Access

For those heading to the airport, it’s advised to avoid the beach circuit between 3:00 AM and 2:00 PM. Access from Callao to Bajada Balta may be reinstated between 11:30 AM and noon, depending on the progress of the event.
