Corona handling scrutinized – two ministers to explain – news Norway – Overview of news from different parts of the country

This is revealed in a letter from Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre (Ap) to the Storting. The government wants to give the Storting “an overall review of the government’s follow-up of the Corona Commission’s and the Corona Commission’s reports,” the letter says. – I request the Presidency of the Storting that the Minister of Justice and Emergency Preparedness and the Minister of Health and Care give an account of the overall follow-up during the spring session, writes Støre. This means that the SV and Venstre will get approval for their demand for a full review of the handling of the pandemic. – It is good that the prime minister and the government see the need for democratic control in handling the pandemic, says SV’s member of the control and constitutional committee Audun Lysbakken. – Stronger restrictions have never been placed on the freedom of Norwegians in peacetime. It is natural and right that the Storting should be allowed to follow the handling at the seams, he says. Just before the New Year, Venstre and SV got a unanimous control and constitutional committee on the demand that the pandemic must be the subject of a proper review. Everything therefore indicates that there will be a control case and eventually an open hearing on the case at the Storting during the spring. Many businesses went under, and not least children and young people paid a disproportionately large part of the bill, says Lysbakken. – Even if the authorities did a lot of things right, it is natural to evaluate and discuss the handling more than we have done so far. Alerts measures Støre indicates in his letter that the government is following up proposals for changes from the committees and commissions that have evaluated the handling of the corona. Specifically, he mentions a new piece of legislation relating to health preparedness and infection control, work to increase intensive care capacity and preparedness at hospitals and a strengthened system for health preparedness. The government has also submitted an escalation plan for mental health and will present a national health and cooperation plan during the winter. “The pandemic affected the whole society and it was prolonged. The government is keen to strengthen social security, so that we are better prepared for the next serious incident,” writes Støre.
