Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre yesterday invited the right wing to new, long-term cooperation on defense and pensions. Conservative Party leader Erna Solberg says yes, albeit with reservations, to the Prime Minister’s proposal. – With long-term issues such as pensions, it is only natural to have broad, large settlements. But then we have to ensure that we can agree on the things that are proposed. That means we have to be responsive. When it comes to the new long-term plan for the Armed Forces, Solberg emphasizes that the parties must talk together before the government locks in its positions. – You cannot come to the Storting with something that has been negotiated in government, says Solberg. Solberg started the day at Politisk kvarter. There she was positive about cooperation with the government. These are demanding times, and there is a need for predictable solutions, says Jonas Gahr Støre. Broad cooperation in the work on the long-term plan for the Armed Forces means that the government stands behind it, regardless of who governs after the next general election in 2025. The Conservative leader agrees. – It is important for the Armed Forces that we build stone by stone. There are long processes, and it requires a great deal of agreement about what we are going to do, she says. A flat no to the salmon tax The area Solberg is not open to settlement on, however, is the government’s tax on the farming industry. – We must ensure better taxation. We believe this is too much taxation of the industry, she believes. Today’s salmon tax must go away, emphasizes Solberg. But it can be replaced by another type of taxation. – We take the industry at their word that they will pay more tax and we will find a way for them to pay more tax.
