Jarl Magnus Riiber went out first in Sunday’s cross-country skiing, but after just one minute there was complete confusion. Suddenly there was a man standing and waving his hands on the trail in front of Riiber. – Oh, what’s going on here? There is a man standing with a yellow vest and waving, commented Jann Post for news. – At least they are on the right track, reassured Torgeir Bjørn. The combined star looked confused as he came hurtling down the hill, but managed to outrun the unknown man. VICTORY: Jarl Magnus Riiber was unstoppable in Kollen. You get a bit of adrenaline from it. I had to take some time to calm down, you get a little curious about what’s going on, says Riiber. – What did you think it was? – I was a bit confused, quite simply. I had heard some rumors about activists and all sorts of strange things before the weekend, that they might well come out. I was a little excited about what happened. The man in the trail was an employee from the Red Cross. He had been told that someone needed help and therefore tried to get over to the audience. – There was a member of the public on the other side of the track who needed medical attention. The Red Cross was then notified, but he was stopped before Riiber arrived. But it looked a bit dramatic, explains race director for combined, Per Trond Enger. Never been better Riiber was unstoppable on his way to victory. The competitors were never close and did not notice that the Norwegian put a telemark shot across the finish line. – He is in a league of his own, Bjørn said of the four-time world champion. When news met Riiber after the race, he was all smiles. – It was a fantastic day again. When I jump that well and get that starting point, all I have to do is go out and enjoy. – Have you ever been better? – Not in competitive setting. The two days here and partly in Planica have been fantastic. I have learned a lot from being in the flow zone, he said before he went upstairs to meet Crown Prince Haakon. Both over 1.5 minutes behind the Norwegian. Jørgen Graabak was second best Norwegian in 5th place in the race. Riiber recently won four golds out of a possible four during the World Ski Championships in Planica. The 25-year-old is in fantastic shape, but he has no chance of defending the overall title in the World Cup. Riiber has struggled with illness earlier this season, and is unable to bring in Johannes Lamparter in the battle for the coveted crystal ball.
