As early as Saturday morning, convoy driving has been introduced on several mountain passes between east and west. It is worst on Hardangervidda. The road traffic center has decided to close the popular mountain crossing for the whole weekend. But in the south, the warning has been extended until Monday. On Monday, a warning was also sent out about strong gusts of wind for the western and northern areas of Østafjell. For large parts of Western Norway, a moderate warning for heavy rain has been issued from Sunday morning to early evening. Up to 80 mm of rain is expected over a 12-hour period. At the same time, a warning has been issued for the risk of landslides, slush and mudslides for Western Norway and parts of Trøndelag. The background is the large amounts of precipitation that are expected, which in combination with mild weather and a lot of wind can lead to snow melting in addition. There is also a warning of significant avalanche danger over large parts of Northern Norway and Western Norway. On-duty meteorologist Martin Granerød says the storm in the mountains will last until the weekend. – There are periods with still a lot of wind for the rest of the day today, tomorrow and Monday. There will be strong gales and periodically also small storms in the most exposed places. Combined with snow showers from the west, there is reason to expect locally still difficult driving conditions in the mountain areas of southern Norway. – There is also a yellow danger warning for snowpack for the mountain area in Nordland, says the meteorologist. It is mainly the westernmost mountain areas that get most of the snow, but there will be wind in the whole area. Granerød advises motorists to take the necessary precautions. – You should check both weather and forecast reports and whether the road as a whole is open.
