Closing the Ukraine post at Ullevål hospital this summer – news Oslo and Viken – Local news, TV and radio

The special ward at Ullevål hospital accepts injured soldiers from Ukraine. Those who come there often have serious and complex war injuries. Many have been operated on several times. It is often the most demanding cases that are sent here. But there have been fewer than they expected. In January, when the department opened, the aim was to recruit as many as 500 Ukrainian soldiers in the next few months. A total of 92 patients with such injuries have come to Norway from Ukraine. 25 of them have been treated at Ullevål. The Ukraine post will now be closed until September. He is national coordinator for medical evacuation and senior physician at Oslo University Hospital. Holtan says that there are several hospitals in Norway that are able to accept patients. They have not yet received all the patients they have offered to take. SUFFICIENT CAPACITY: Senior doctor at OUS, Anders Holtan, says there is enough capacity in Norway to receive those who need help. CRITICAL: FRP’s Bård Hoksrud thinks the closure is a strange signal to send out, when the war is still going on. Photo: Marit Sirum-Eikre / news He believes that it is therefore likely that more injured soldiers will come here, who will need operations and treatment in hospital. – Then it will be a strange signal from Norway to close down during the summer months. I fear it is a matter of finances, and that some of what we are supposed to contribute to help injured Ukrainian soldiers may come at a cost, says Hoksrud. Still has enough capacity, Superintendent Holtan nevertheless assures that everyone who comes here will get the help they need. – There will be enough capacity as far as we know, both in Norway and in Europe. Both OUS and other hospitals will continue to offer the offer throughout the summer, he says. State Secretary in the Ministry of Health and Care, Ellen Rønning-Arnesen. We are and will continue to be an important part of the European cooperation to help and support Ukraine, she wrote in an e-mail to news.
