Clinic manager Georg Johnsen resigns due to the issue of the maternity ward in Kristiansund – news Møre og Romsdal – Local news, TV and radio

The maternity ward in Kristiansund is the only one in the country that has a Storting resolution on it, which says it must remain open. Despite this, Helse Møre and Romsdal cannot get hold of people who can work there. Now the head of the hospitals in Kristiansund and Molde has decided to resign, along with two others in the management. – We have worked intensively on the maternity case for a year and a half, and I don’t see any immediate solution to reopening the maternity unit in Kristiansund. I now believe that it is right to focus on one maternity ward in Nordmøre and Romsdal until the SNR is ready. This means that Helse Møre og Romsdal must find someone new who can take on the job of getting the maternity ward open again. – I think it’s terribly sad, and it’s a shame for the healthcare company, at the same time I think it’s perfectly understandable that they don’t want to stand in their leadership positions anymore, says CEO of Helse Møre og Romsdal, Øyvind Bakke. Standing in a pinch Georg Johnsen has previously told news that he does not see how they will be able to open the maternity ward when the shortage of professionals is as great as it is now. Bakke also shares that view. But because of the Storting decision, he is not the one who decides when they can say that enough is enough. – When everyone has to comply with a Storting decision, it becomes a question of how long it will be before one has to go to the Storting again to say that this was actually not easy to implement, says political commentator at news, Lars Nehru Sand. He thinks it is first and foremost very special that the Storting has given concrete money to a maternity ward, and that they are instructing a healthcare company in this way. – That situation is extremely special, also because I think many people want this. It shows that politics is not only about good wishes to lend money, it actually depends on what happens on the ground, that people want to work somewhere. When it doesn’t happen, it’s demanding, says Sand.
