The violent escalation that whipped Cali and the Valle del Cauca during the afternoon of Thursday, August 21, 2025, with the attack on the Air Base Marco Fidel Suárez that left six dead and 71 injured , caused shock and rejection at the national level.
The incident adds to the attack against a helicopter in Amalfi, Antioquia, by the 36th front of the “Calarcá” dissidents faction, which claimed 13 police officers’ lives , as well as the attack last June against Miguel Uribe Turbay, a presidential candidate for the Democratic Center, who succumbed to injuries after two months in the hospital.

The environment of anxiety and uncertainty , less than a year before the country celebrates new presidential elections, is evident, prompting many entertainers to voice their concerns regarding the tragic events in Cali.
One prominent figure was Caterin Escobar , a talented actress and current participant of THE HOUSE OF THE AFMOSE COLOMBIA. Through her Instagram stories, Escobar expressed her sorrow over the violence that has recently surged in her beloved city.

In her statement, she declared: “It is inevitable to see the videos of so many innocent injured, suffering from a violence that does not belong to them. Cali does not deserve this. For 15 years we did not live a wave of attacks such as the one we face again this year. Sadness and insecurity return to our city. All my solidarity with affected families. #Duelescali,” she wrote.
Another voice echoing the sentiments of concern was Mario Alberto Yepes , a former soccer player and also a participant of Masterchef Celebrity. The Valle del Cauca native shared a symbolic image of a black ribbon on his social media, referencing the mourning that envelops the community following the attack.

On his Instagram account, Yepes empathized with the cries from the public for an effective solution to the ongoing violence that plagues Colombia.
“I’m barely seeing news, I can’t believe what happened. I usually try not to comment on anything, but this already went past the limit,” acknowledged the content creator as he reacted to the remarkable escalation of violence witnessed last Thursday.
Yeferson Cossio , another popular influencer who often stays clear of political discussions, also used his platform to express concern about the possibility of Colombia returning to the era of violence that had plagued the nation for decades: “Colombia, we cannot be the first thing (…) it is already supposed to live in peace, be calm on the street. We cannot afford to be what we were before, those times were left behind,” he stated.

His remarks included an explicit call to authorities , urging those in power to take decisive action to mitigate the violence that currently grips the nation: “Those who direct this country have to do something; this is too serious and sad. My condolences to the relatives of the victims, and I wish a speedy recovery to the injured,” he remarked.
Cossio emphasized that his intention is not to incite tension or politicize tragedy but rather to echo a sentiment felt by numerous citizens: “I’m going to save everything I mean, I will not encourage hate with my statements, but I know that we all think about the management that is being given to the country,” he concluded.
