Aston Villa had doubled their lead at Old Trafford after just 26 minutes played. But after a nightmare innings for the home team, Alejandro Garnacho made it two on the rap. Before Rasmus Højlund added to make it 3–2 and decided the game with his first goal in the Premier League. – It is the type of victory that can simply turn the season around, says Viaplay’s football expert Lars Tjærnås. The home team is therefore number 6 in the table. Aston Villa is at number 3 behind Liverpool, who top the table. Because before the start of the match, the hope was anything but a pipe concert at home. For United, who have struggled against the odds all autumn, they were desperately chasing important points. – These are numbers that are sensationally weak, said Nils Johan Semb on Viaplay’s broadcast before the start of the match. – The entire interaction structure of Manchester United has been weak throughout the autumn, he continued. But a team with apparently low self-confidence had huge trouble against Aston Villa right from the start. – A record fall without equal Christian Eriksen tried on several occasions for United, but was too defensive and the big chances failed. Halfway through the first half, however, John McGinn went through all the players and sent the away side into the lead. – They don’t understand what has happened, neither do the other Manchester United players, said Viaplay’s football expert Lars Tjærnås about McGinn’s cheeky goal. Marcus Rashford, who has played in various positions throughout the autumn, came up with an opportunity after just over half an hour played, but the ball ended up right in the keeper. Ten Hag’s crew then recorded the match, but went to the break with a bad atmosphere and a whistle concert from the home fans. – A record drop without equal, for which Ten Hag is partly responsible, said Viaplay’s football expert Petter Veland during the break, when the manager’s future became a topic. – There is no easy decision on something that runs quite deep, he continued Manchester United at halftime with a concert of pipes from the audience. First, Garnacho put the ball into the goal from an angle, but after a VAR check, the goal was canceled for offside. Ten Hag waited to unleash the jubilation when Garnacho was rewarded for the attempts a short time later. The 19-year-old then ended up in several offside situations, before reducing and doubling for United. – Now he has opened the scoring account twice at Old Trafford, said Tjærnås about the score. The scoring account was opened and with that Rasmus Højlund sent the home team into the lead when he scored his first goal in the Premier League.
