Can introduce stricter measures – news Oslo and Viken – Local news, TV and radio

The water reservoirs are down to 66 percent. Normally at this time of year, magazine filling would be 88 percent. Frode Hult hopes Oslo people will continue to limit their water use. Photo: Kristin Granbo / Kristin Granbo – It’s the lowest level we’ve had this year, says section leader for water environment in the Water and Wastewater Agency Frode Hult. Oslo municipality has already limited its water consumption. If magazine filling falls even more, the municipality must introduce more measures. Then all water for municipal use will cease. – If it gets very hot and dry in the future, we can get there in September. That is why it is important that people continue to be smart with their water use, says Hult. Stricter measures The last time Oslo saw such a low level was in 2018. After several months of little rainfall and high heat, Oslo municipality introduced a watering ban. To avoid a repeat, Hult is now hoping for a lot of rainfall into the field. – If we reach measure level 3, there will be a ban on garden watering, car washing and that type of thing, he says. Today we are at measure level 1, but if the drought continues, it may be appropriate to go to level 2 as early as September. Level 3 can be implemented in October if the situation does not improve. Saving on rainwater Oslo resident Kathrine Daniloff fears that the level in the water reservoirs will become even lower. Kathrine Daniloff saves rainwater in buckets. Photo: Privat She wants to avoid the municipality having to introduce noticeable measures, and has therefore found alternative solutions to save water. – I have put some large containers under my gutters, so that they fill up with water when it rains, she says. Daniloff uses the rainwater to water his garden. – I want things to flourish around me, but I don’t want to use up the water reserves. Daniloff has found alternative solutions for saving water. Photo: Privat She also follows the municipality’s recommendations to take shorter showers and save laundry until the machine is completely full. – And I use woolen clothes, so that I can just hang them up without washing them and they are still just as clean, she adds. Bragging about the people of Oslo Frode Hult brags about the efforts of the people of Oslo. After the municipality sent out a message asking Oslo residents to use less water, water consumption has decreased. Now he hopes the residents will continue to be careful with their water use. – Keep doing the things we’ve been doing. Shower a little shorter and turn off the running water when brushing your teeth.
