But the marriage was turbulent, and in December 1992 they filed for separation. Diana was much loved by the British people. The rumors about the relationship Charles had did not put Camilla in a good light. After recordings of private conversations between Charles and Camilla were published in British newspapers in 1993, Charles admitted that they had had an affair while he was married. Diana referred to it in a TV interview a few years later as being three people in the marriage. With all the negative publicity, Camilla was long disliked. You have to move on in life. The popularity has also improved in recent years, after Camilla and Charles finally emerged as a couple. They married in 2005, eight years after Diana’s death. Instead, she is now “Queen Consort”, like other wives of reigning British kings. In everyday life, the title is shortened to queen. It is this title that Queen Elizabeth expressed earlier this year that she wanted for Camilla. In the press release from the new king, Camilla was referred to as queen consort.
