Gullvåg’s studio is located in an industrial premises outside Trondheim, and the artist describes it as an additional studio. There he gets an overview of the larger works he creates, at an early stage. On Sunday morning, he was notified by neighbors that someone had entered the unsecured studio at the weekend. – It’s a risk I’m taking myself, because this is work in an early phase – the first reports, says Gullvåg. Gullvåg uses the studio to work on large works. Photo: Morten Andersen / news Stolen radio So far, he has only discovered that a radio from Clas Ohlson has been stolen. He also investigates whether some smaller sketches may be missing, but adds that it may be that he himself has moved them to one of his other studios. – If it’s not worse than that, I’ve been very lucky. I don’t know how qualified the burglars were, says Gullvåg. He adds that most of the pictures in the studio are 3–6 meters in size, and thus not something a thief can simply take away under his arm. The artist is therefore most afraid of vandalism and destruction of the pictures. Several large works were in the studio at the time of the break-in. Photo: Morten Andersen / news Too much trust in the surroundings The artist has several large studios where he works with large pictures – both in Italy, China and Poland. – That’s how I work. I work on big things in parallel, and I also work outdoors. That’s how it has to be for me to get something done. Gullvåg is now installing alarms and securing the building in Trondheim. – It forces itself, perhaps I have a little too much trust in my surroundings and fellow human beings. Then you can experience such things, but I choose to continue to have that trust, he says.
