Bones found – now the police know who the deceased was – news Rogaland – Local news, TV and radio

On Easter Sunday, a hiker found bones from a human on Grødaland in Hå municipality in Rogaland. The bone remains were sent for an autopsy at Stavanger University Hospital, which showed that they belonged to a man over 45 years old. Probably these have not been there for many years. The remains were checked against missing persons in Norway, which yielded no hits. As a result, a request was sent to Interpol for a search of registers abroad. Man from Lithuania Now the police in the South West have received an answer. – The bones were for autopsy, and were sent on for DNA analysis at Oslo University Hospital. A DNA profile was secured from one femur, but a register search in the national DNA register yielded no results, says investigation manager Morten Slettebø. A request was therefore sent to Interpol for a search of registers abroad. – The search was successful. The man has now been identified, says Slettebø. The man is from Lithuania, but lived in Bryne. He was reported missing on 28 February 2022, and is said to have been last seen driving his car, a Volkswagen Sharan with registration number LJ30717. – We created a missing persons case when the report about the man came in, but neither he nor the car was found, until the remains were found in Grødaland, says Slettebø. The police made tactical and technical investigative steps after they received the missing person report, but this did not lead to them finding the man. – The police also called for the man through the media. It was not and is not suspected that anything criminal has happened to him, adds Slettebø. The police have worked for a long time to get answers to the discovery of bones in Grødaland in April.
