A leisure boat with nine people capsized in the sea at the island of Teksmona in Nordland on the night of Saturday. The police first received a report about the accident at four o’clock. It was the people involved themselves who reported the incident. A little before 06:00 on Saturday morning, the police write in a press release that two people have been confirmed dead after the accident. The next of kin have been notified. Young people The incident happened west of Ørnes, which is the municipal center in Meløy municipality. – Based on the descriptions at the scene, the boat must have run up onto a rocky outcropping and sustained damage so that it sank, says operations manager in the Nordland police district, Kjetil Kaalaas, to news. The people involved are young people, from 18 to their early 20s. Four sent to hospital Two people were missing for a while, but by three o’clock the police had control of all those involved. – For a period, two people were missing, but were found in the water after some time. Life-saving first aid was administered at the scene. When health personnel arrived, the two above-mentioned persons were unfortunately declared dead by a doctor, the police write in a press release. The seven other people are injured to varying degrees. Four of them have been sent to Nordlandssykehuset in Bodø, three of them to the local emergency room. The police have launched an investigation to clarify the course of events. – The police are now at the scene. We have secured the boat, we are taking pictures and will question those involved. We are following the situation and are in contact with the police, says Stormo. The municipality’s website states that the psychosocial crisis team has also been activated. The municipality is establishing a relative center at Meløy health and welfare centre. They also set up a contact telephone number for residents who need contact with the crisis team. Norwegian Air Ambulance, Redningsskøyta Hans Herman Horn, several civilian boats, the Coast Guard, rescue divers from the fire service and an ambulance took part in the rescue operation.
